But first, Ramadan Mubarak!
My favorite part of Ramadan is best represented by the photo above: gathering for iftar with friends and family. Nothing feels better than feeding the people you love during Ramadan. There’s a spirit of generosity and love in the air during this month that feels beyond special. Even if you’re unable to fast, it’s still rewarding to get into the spirit by breaking bread with your loved ones. My favorite childhood memories are around Ramadan. Maybe it’s because my mom makes specific dishes only during this month and not year-round. So on some level, I’m subconsciously anticipating eating those delicacies every year. Pakoras, fruit chaat, rooh afzah lemonade, egg salad sandwiches, dhai bhale, the list goes on. Iftar food is just the best! I shared our family Pakora recipe last year, which you should check out if you are inspired to make them. Now, let’s get into upcoming shows and new music!
BOILER ROOM: NYC + MONTREAL
If you read my last two newsletters, I kept hinting at announcing an exciting show. Well, now I can finally share that I’m playing Boiler Room! Initially, I was only meant to be playing Boiler Room New York, but thanks to the angels behind Laylit (thank you, Saphe), I’m also playing Boiler Room Montréal! This will be my first time playing in Canada, but most definitely not my last. Once I have more details on set times for both shows, I’ll share them. For now, you can see more details on the lineup, tickets, and more, below.
NEW YORK: Sunday, July 14. TICKETS
MONTREAL: Saturday, May 11. TICKETS
Upcoming Shows
The next few months are already booked up (God bless). You can see all of my shows + tickets to them on my linktree or my website. But here’s an overview of everything outside of Boiler Room:
MARCH 21: Habibi’s House at Knockdown Center, NYC. You may be familiar with DJ Habibeats, the Palestinian legend who is not only an incredibly talented DJ, but an equally as talented producer. TICKETS
MARCH 22: Sundae Sauce at Jolene Soundroom, NYC. I love this lineup so much! This will be a different vibe from Habibi’s House, but equally as fun. TICKETS
APRIL 12: The Layover x Glow - My first D.C. headline show! I had so many requests to come and play in D.C., and now it’s finally happening (not for a private event). So excited to be part of this lineup with Mathias (the iconic DJ who made the Iskaba x Heated blend) and Native Sun. TICKETS
APRIL 13: Go Baba! at Sultan Room, NYC. Rocking with a Palestinian Chicago legend, Nanoos, who is also playing Boiler Room in Montreal. The girls are taking it. TICKETS
MY FIRST OFFICIAL REMIX: CHOLI BUTTER
Yeah, you heard that right. Not a mashup, not an edit, not a blend: A REMIX! The idea for this remix actually started over nine years ago. It went through so many iterations and something finally clicked a few months ago that pushed it to the next level. I found the sauce that was missing. Good things really do take time. This was a collaboration with my long-time friend, Paki Tea House who is a beast of a producer. This is where Hip-Hop meets Bollywood meets Amapiano. Enjoy
March Muffintops
Once again, this playlist is a hot mess of all the random music that I hear in my brain. Enjoy :)
What I’m Reading
I just finished reading The Stranger (L'etranger) by Albert Camus and I am forever changed. I also finished reading The Houseguest by Amparo Dávila while sitting on the beach in the Caribbean. Both of these books probably weren’t the most relaxing options for a vacation read, but at least they made me think. Absurdist philosophy is now my new hyperfixation and I’m determined to read more of Camus’ work, as well as dive into Nietzche, Proust, Kafka, and Said. However, I’m always looking for some more lighthearted fiction recommendations (only reading non-fiction is extremely overrated), so bring them on.
Favorite Things
AG1: my absolute favorite supplement that I take daily, even when I travel (this is not sponsored, none of this is)
Dumplings & peanut noodles from Shu Jiao Fu Zhou in Chinatown that cost a whopping $7
The menu at Masala Y Maiz in Mexico City
